A Matter of Godly Perspective

I thought this was rather interesting and thought-provoking. Looking at the image, you would immediately conclude that Square A is of course darker than Square B. It seems almost impossible or even unimaginable that they could be of the same colour. Truth to be told, they are actually of the same shade of grey. Unexplainable? Well, see for yourself here. Our eyes play tricks on us. When put together next to different shades of grey, a grey square appears differently to the human eye.

Don't you think life is often like this too? Often when we are in a difficult situation or an undesirable one, we ask God, "Why have you got me into this?!" We lose sight of the fact that He has promised to show us the way as we obey Him. We blame God and lose ourselves in empty self pity and grumbling, forgetting that His ways are not our ways and that He has called us to trust in Him with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding.

I have learnt over the past year that the only way to live life to the fullest is to obey God when He directs. Even when our human understanding and knowledge tells us otherwise. I have learnt too that very often, God speaks to us through our spiritual leaders. Was there a time you felt that you knew better and that your church leader or pastor was just being over-reactive to your ways? My encouragement to you is to respond in obedience. Don't lose your way among the different shades or grey. Follow Jesus, the one way that we could only live for.

Extraordinarily ordinary

21st Birthdays are special. Becoming 21 signifies the entry into adulthood. It impresses that one is old enough to be resposible for his own life. To take charge, to take lead, to follow one's dreams. My spiritual son, Jonathan Tay, turned 21 on May 6. He and his twin brother, David, celebrated this by holding a special concert to celebrate the goodness of God in their lives. As their way of giving back to the coummunity, a special offering was collected during the performance and altogether, $3,921.30 will go towards funding the work at TOUCH Youth Services, a service group under TOUCH Community Service.

The concert was simply brilliant. The fact that the two young men are musically talented is a given. What touches my heart is that they choose to glorify God with their God-given talents. We need more youths to rise up and use their God-given talents for the purpose of His kingdom. For FCBC Youthnet, this is the year of extraordinary possibilities. By planning and organising the whole concert, the two of them showed us how to dream big and glorify God. This has got me excited. Pastor Seng Lee challenged me to hold an evangelistic event at the same scale or bigger. I declare it will be done before the end of next year. If you are dreaming the same as me, you are most welcomed to come on board. Better still, go dream your own harvest event to execute. I dare you to.

Really Good Chicken Rice

A very good friend of mine, Benjamin works at his parent's Chicken Rice stall in Thomson while not firing at his guitar. Like I said, he is a very good friend so I am helping to plug his chicken rice stall. Even so, check this out - they have been recommended by 8 Days, Moses Lim and some program on Channel 5. Singapore is bigger than PAP.

With all the talk going on about how Singapore's political scene needs a more level playing field and why an opposition party is good for Singapore, here's an insightful view on why having an alternative leadership is good for Singapore. I would encourage you to take some time to read this interview with EDB Society President, Mr. Ngiam Tong Dow. It is a little long, but I think his responses are thought provoking and very well thought out.
